Akela Construction Ltd, Akela Ground Engineering Ltd and DGM Surfacing Ltd, all part of the Akela Group, is continuing to support AS Homes (Scotland) with the delivery of a significant affordable housing development in the east of Glasgow for Sanctuary Group. The partnership will bring 128 high-quality homes to Myreside Street in Carntyne.
The properties, which will be available for social and mid-market rent, are being built on a 2.48 hectare brownfield site which was previously the site of local steel fabricator, Brown McFarlane.
Designed by S2 Architecture, Myreside Street comprises a mix of properties, including 38 modern flats across four storey blocks, ranging between one and two beds, and 90 houses spanning two, three and four bedrooms. The ‘barrier free’ development will be fully accessible with private parking, cycle space, spacious footpaths and entrances to all properties that support wheelchair access.
Akela Construction Ltd will provide initial enabling and infrastructure works, including earthworks modification, stabilisation, main sewers, roads and suds for the development.
Akela Ground Engineering Ltd will follow with driven piling and ground beams for 72 houses and the block of flats before Akela Construction Ltd continues with floor slabs, driveways, footpaths and street lighting.
DGM Surfacing Ltd will complete the one-stop-shop approach with all final surfacing.
Will Payne, General Manager at Akela Ground Engineering, said: “This development at Carntyne will be transformational for the surrounding area and will provide much-needed housing for local residents. Work at the site is well underway with our teams delivering expert engineering services.
“Akela Group is proud to be working closely with AS Homes, using our skill and expertise to deliver another key affordable housing project for Sanctuary Homes which will be a fantastic addition to this area of Glasgow.”
Paul Kelly, Managing Director at AS Homes (Scotland) Ltd, added: “This significant development supports the creation of affordable and sustainable homes in a growing Glasgow community. We have a strong relationship with Akela and are delighted to be working with them to deliver this crucial work at Carntyne.
“Our new homes at Myreside Street will play an integral role in helping to bridge the affordable housing gap and provide a dynamic mix of high quality properties that cater to all.”
