Pump hire specialist, Sykes Pumps, has helped to provide part of the excitement for racers and spectators at this year’s Wales Rally GB by supplying the pump equipment required for the Water Splash at Oulton Park Race Track.
The Wales Rally GB is a stage motor sport event with each day of the four-day competition divided into ‘special stages’, where drivers race against the clock for the fastest time. Day two of this year’s event was held at Oulton Park, a motor racing track in Cheshire, and the venue enlisted the help of Sykes Pumps to create a Water Splash feature on the course.
Sykes Pumps supplied a Super Wispaset 80 Eco for the Water Splash, with an installation designed to abstract water from a nearby stream and deliver it to the site of the Water Splash feature to ensure a dramatic splash as cars drove through it. The pump was required continuously throughout the day to keep the water at the required level to maintain the splash feature for multiple circuits of the track.
Explains Jon Rush from Oulton Park: “We needed something compact enough to manoeuvre on site without taking up too much space, yet efficient enough to provide plenty of water for a consistent level of splash each time a car passed through. We also wanted something that was quiet and fuel-efficient, as we knew we would have to run it all day.
“We have worked with Sykes Pumps before to provide a wet road surface, and we were confident they would be able to offer us a suitable, cost-efficient solution. They came to site to make sure they understood our requirements and where the pump could be sited before recommending the Super Wispaset 80 eco, which was ideal for the Water Splash.”
Sykes Pumps delivered the Super Wispaset 80 eco to site four days before the Wales Rally GB race day to enable set up and testing of the Water Splash before the big day.
