Derbyshire-based Phoenix Drywall (UK) Ltd has had reason to celebrate after winning the ‘Steel Framed Systems’ category at the FIS Contractors Awards for the work carried out on a development at Sheffield Hallam University.

The award-winning project stood out to the FIS Contractors Awards judges for several compelling reasons, as Dave Newbold, Managing Director, outlines: “Firstly, it showcased exceptional quality and precision in its execution, reflecting our commitment to the highest standards of craftsmanship. The intricate design and meticulous attention to detail in the steel-framed systems demonstrated our technical expertise and innovative approach to construction.

“Secondly, the project’s emphasis on sustainability likely impressed the judges. By incorporating environmentally friendly materials and energy-efficient systems, we aligned with the growing industry focus on green building practices, contributing to a sustainable future.

“Moreover, our ability to complete the project on time and within budget highlighted our efficient project management skills. Despite the complexities and challenges inherent in large-scale developments, our team coordinated effectively with various stakeholders, ensuring smooth progress and timely completion.

“The project also significantly enhanced the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the university, creating a modern, conducive learning environment for students and staff. Our efforts to blend practical utility with visual appeal underscored our holistic approach to construction.

“Finally, the positive impact on the local community and the strong client satisfaction further underscored the success of the project. The judges likely recognised our dedication to not only meeting but exceeding client expectations and our contribution to the educational infrastructure in Sheffield.”

In summary, the Sheffield Hallam University project stood out due to its exceptional quality, sustainable practices, efficient management, aesthetic and functional enhancements, and positive community impact, all of which reflect Phoenix Drywall’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

Phoenix Drywall (UK) Ltd is a division of Phoenix Brickwork (UK) Ltd, a national masonry contractor founded in 2010. The company, with its roots in Derbyshire and Northamptonshire, initially focused on masonry services but soon recognised the need to diversify and expand its offerings to better serve its clients.

In 2017, Phoenix Brickwork expanded to include the Drywall Division, aiming to simplify the process for repeat clients by coordinating the design of Steel Framed Systems (SFS) with brickwork. This strategic move was intended to address a common challenge faced by clients and streamline the construction process.

In 2020, Phoenix purchased BMH Scaffolding Ltd to better their offering to clients and remove the co-ordination issues faced when working with third-party scaffolders on site. This now completes the Phoenix UK Group, offering to deliver a through-wall package to clients focused on betterment within its supply chain.

“However, we also face several challenges. Supply chain disruptions, with fluctuations in material availability and costs, can impact project timelines and budgets. Additionally, the industry faces a shortage of skilled labour, necessitating investment in training and development to maintain our high standards.”

Phoenix Drywall is well positioned to capitalise on these opportunities by expanding its service offerings to meet the growing demand in various sectors. “We are investing in sustainable practices and materials to align with market trends, enhancing our training programs to address the skilled labour shortage and ensure quality, and strengthening our supply chain management to mitigate disruptions,” concludes Mr Newbold. “Overall, the current marketplace presents promising opportunities for growth and innovation, and Phoenix Drywall is committed to navigating challenges and delivering exceptional value to our clients.”
