Longwater Construction Supply’s close shave for charity

Norwich-based Longwater Construction Supply has been giving plenty back this year after getting involved in a number of different charitable events.

So far this year it has donated tools and wheelbarrows to the Norwich Historical Churches Trust, supplied a lorry load of materials for renovating Hallswood Animal Sanctuary’s facilities, and helped a little boy called ‘Max’, who won a competition to have a new garden for his terminally ill father. The company has also supplied all the materials to Heart FM, while it is also now involved with a soon to be filmed DIY SOS supplying materials to help a local family.

The company has also carried out several events to help Break Charity raise over £25,000, while it has also helped Costessey Sports Club and the Crusaders Rugby Club to buy kits and renovate their clubhouse.

If that wasn’t enough, this Christmas it will supply the St Martins Housing Homeless Charity with their Christmas lunch and gifts of socks and hats etc, while staff have had their heads shaved for the local Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which is a specialist intensive care unit with 42 cots based at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. In addition there are also bedrooms attached to the unit for the use of parents wishing to stay overnight with their babies. It is one of three centres providing the highest level of specialist neonatal, medical and surgical intensive care across the East of England Neonatal Network. This means that it cares for babies from its own area, as well as from other hospitals in the Eastern region that require a higher level of care, either due to extreme prematurity or because of a need for surgical or medical care for a specific condition.

The unit cares for 900 babies a year, some may be with it for a few months, while they grow and become strong enough to go home. Others may just need a few days support with feeding. Babies born with specific problems may need surgery or complex medical care. Babies may start off in the Intensive Care room and as they grow and improve will progress through to High Dependency and on the Special Care rooms. When well enough to go home some babies and families will still need support and the unit is able to provide this with its Outreach Team of nurses.

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Fund is a hospital charity that helps fund projects that support the work of the NHS and works closely with supporters to ensure that funds raised go directly to the area specified.
