Harvey Group Plc – Another strong year

Northern Ireland-based Harvey Group Plc capped another strong year by winning Commercial Installation Project of the Year for Queens University Belfast Wellcome Wolfson Centre of Experimental Medicine.

“It was an extremely complex project and as a result it involved a number of difficulties that we had to overcome,” says Ryan McLernon, Commercial Manager. “The development, which was £7.5m in value, commenced on January 2014 and was completed in June 2015. It had a significant BIM element, which is something that we have strived to develop our expertise in. We’ve put a great deal of time and effort over the last few years into making sure that internally we have the ability to carry out BIM. It’s something that we’re proactive in at the minute and are pushing ahead with in order to get ahead of the game.”

As the company further strengthens its infrastructure, Mr McLernon is confident that Harvey Group has all the tools it needs to capitalise on the opportunities coming its way. “We’ve got a strong team here in Northern Ireland that’s been delivering work over the 35-plus years and more recently we’ve expanded the team as we’ve grown. We’re therefore strategically placed to service whatever clients we’re lucky enough to win projects with so that none of our quality ever gets compromised.

“We’re seeing continued growth in both Great Britain and Northern Ireland market. There was something of a drop off in tenders due to the elections in the second quarter but in the third quarter of the year we have been lucky enough to pick up some good work in Northern Ireland and GB, which is positive. We know that consultants as a whole in Northern Ireland are busy at the minute which means that three to six months down the line we would be expecting to see an increase in tenders. In 12 months I would hope that the Northern Ireland market has picked up and that we have established ourselves in GB with the help of the opening of our Dunstable office to further establish ourselves in mainland UK. We have completed several large projects in GB recently and we’re about to start works on Luton Airport, which is valued at £12m M&E.

“On a regional basis Northern Ireland itself is potentially lagging behind in the quantity of projects coming through, whereas in GB there are many enquiries across the region, which is positive. In terms of sectors that we focus on, we are experienced in a wide variety including Healthcare, Government, Education and Leisure. With regards to the Education sector, we have worked with Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield University and Ulster University and are currently working on new Student Accommodation in the centre of Belfast; Healthcare-wise we have just recently handed over Windsor Walk, which is an experimental medicine facility beside Kings Cross Hospital in London. We’ve also completed Lanyon Plaza, Waterfront Hall, Titanic Signature and Ravenhill Stadium here in Belfast and across the water we are currently on Furness House, a CAT A Office Fit Out in Fenchurch Street, London”

Harvey Heating Limited was formed by Brian Harvey in 1978 with a focus on co-operation, innovation, quality, safety, attention to detail and value for money for his customers in both domestic and commercial HVAC premises and changed its name to Harvey Group Plc in 1985, reflecting its ability to provide a ‘one stop’ M&E installation and maintenance facility.
