Construction is underway on a new development of energy-efficient homes in Billericay. Housebuilder Bellway is delivering 47 new properties at Mayflower Mews, a 3.5-acre site located off Southend Road on the southern edge of the Essex town.
The development will include a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes, all designed with sustainability at their core. The properties will feature energy-saving measures aimed at reducing carbon emissions, including solar panels and electric vehicle charging points installed as standard.
Bellway Thames Gateway Sales Director, Ed Brading, said the project reflects the company’s commitment to building homes fit for the future.
“These modern, energy-efficient homes will cost less to run and have a reduced environmental impact,” he said. “Our ‘fabric first’ approach ensures they are well insulated and designed around the way people want to live today.”
The range of property sizes and styles is intended to appeal to a broad spectrum of buyers, including first-time purchasers taking their first step onto the property ladder.
Mayflower Mews benefits from a well-connected location. Billericay railway station is approximately a 10-minute drive away, offering services to London Liverpool Street in around 35 minutes. Basildon is five miles away, and the Essex coast is under 15 miles from the development.
In addition to providing much-needed housing, the scheme will generate more than £1.5m in investment for local infrastructure and services through Bellway’s planning agreement. Over £1m of this will be allocated to off-site affordable housing.
Education provision will receive more than £400,000, including £209,000 for primary schools and £192,000 for secondary education. Further contributions include £77,000 for open space, culture, play, and sports facilities; £17,000 for South Green Surgery; and £14,000 to support local employment and skills initiatives.
Homes at Mayflower Mews are scheduled to be released for sale in July, with the first residents expected to move in next spring.
