Work is nearing completion on a major new state-of-the-art ambulance station off Clough Road in Hull, with construction company Hobson & Porter on course to hand over the facility later this summer.
The Yorkshire and Lincolnshire-based contractor is carrying out the station’s internal fit-out on behalf of Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust. The work includes installing ceilings, partition walls, flooring, kitchen units, internal doors and glazing, alongside decoration and the creation of a number of feature walls. Hobson & Porter is also coordinating and overseeing all mechanical and electrical services throughout the building.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust has invested £6 million in the project, with Hobson & Porter delivering a £2.8 million contract. Once complete, the new station will bring together staff currently based at Hull East, Hull West, Sutton Fields, Hamburg Road and the Trust’s fleet workshop into a single modern facility.

“Having our team in one central location will deliver a wide range of operational improvements, including scheduling, vehicle availability and recruitment, as well as supporting a dedicated team providing ambulance vehicle preparation services.
“Ambulance stations are predominantly operational bases for our staff, who start and finish their shifts there and return for rest breaks. Most of our crews are mobile during their shifts, responding to incidents across Hull and East Yorkshire according to clinical priority.
“Providing a new, modern ambulance station supports our staff, who have very challenging roles. The improvements delivered by this new station will support their health and wellbeing and will ultimately ensure we are better positioned to respond to the needs of our community and deliver improved patient care.”

“We started work on the project at the beginning of January and are now entering its final stages, with more than 60 members of our team and our specialist subcontractors currently on site as we approach handover. This is an exciting milestone for everyone involved, especially because we all understand how important this facility will be for Hull and how it will contribute to saving lives.”
Hull’s non-emergency Patient Transport Service will also be based at the new station, creating opportunities to invest in electric vehicle charging infrastructure to support its growing fleet of electric vehicles.
The development also includes an on-site fleet workshop, removing the need to transport vehicles to external maintenance facilities and helping reduce the amount of time ambulances spend off the road. Dedicated training space has also been included within the building, enabling clinical and professional development to be delivered locally while reducing travel requirements and associated costs.
The new facility will provide Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust with a modern, efficient operational hub that supports staff, improves services and strengthens patient care across Hull and East Yorkshire.
