Tod Security & Fire: 35 years and counting…

This year sees Tod Security & Fire celebrating its 35th anniversary after it was created by electrician David Tod in 1987, a landmark that highlights the excellent reputation the company has gained since its creation.

Over the years David prided himself on perfection at all levels from the design and installation through to aftercare for all clients, which is reflected in Tod Security & Fire’s longevity as a business.

Danny Tod joined in 2008 and has since worked his way through various parts of the organisation to become Managing Director, developing new systems and procedures, whilst also having a background as both an electrician joiner and welder.

Based from its site in Pontypool in Wales, over the years Tod Security & Fire’s services have develop to include installation, repairs and servicing of the following:

  • Intruder alarms;
  • Fire alarms;
  • CCTV systems;
  • Automatic gates & barriers;
  • Access control systems.

“One of our most significant developments was our move to new custom made premises on the Mamhilad Park estate,” explains Danny Tod. “This has allowed us to expand our offices, increase our warehouse and create a production facility where we make our own gates.

“The new location is more central to our customer base and has allowed us to further expand into the Bristol, Swansea and Cardiff areas. Currently we have a mixture of domestic, commercial and industrial customers with fire alarms and CCTV taking off for leisure centres, schools, and manufacturing plants.

“We specialise in CCTV systems used for health & safety and quality control for production lines and machinery. All of our management team have experience onsite with a range of systems. This helps ensure that staff are properly trained and jobs are managed efficiently.

Despite having a quarter of a century of operation under its belt and the tremendous experience it has gained over the years, there remain a number of challenges that Tod Security & Fire continues to have to contend with, as Danny outlines: “The biggest challenge at present is finding high quality engineers in the industry. As a result, we now have five apprentices in the business, as we look to bolster our resources to support the growth we’re seeing.”

Adding to its numbers is increasingly important for Tod Security & Fire after it doubled in size over the past two years. “We do not push for work and all growth has been as a result of word of mouth or recommendations from clients,” concludes Danny. “My intention as Managing Director is to not only keep up with demand, but to ensure that while we grow, the family ethics and practices quality of service is continued.”

This commitment to quality and service has obviously served Tod Security & Fire well over the past 35 years and is sure to continue doing so moving forward.
