Kaymac – Expanding horizons

Leading civil engineering firm, Kaymac, is set to embark on a new chapter with the acquisition of a significant office block in the Swansea Enterprise Park. This move marks a pivotal step in its expansion strategy, aimed at enhancing its operational capabilities and accommodating a growing workforce.

“We’ve purchased a plot of land and are in the process of acquiring a large block of offices in the Swansea Enterprise Park,” explains Rhiannon Crees-Moore, Business Development Director. “This new space will allow us to move our office staff and operations while we await planning permission for a state-of-the-art office and workshop block.”

The expansion is driven by Kaymac’s success in securing a framework agreement with Welsh Water and Wales and West Utilities, which promises a surge of projects in the coming eight years. To meet these demands, the company is not only expanding its premises but also investing in new talent. “We’re looking to recruit more staff, including engineers and a graduate, to help us deliver the projects that will be coming from the Welsh Water framework,” adds Rhiannon. “The opportunities through the framework so far have been slow but we have been informed that this will change significantly early next year, so we’re preparing for that by investing in our people and our equipment so we can deliver when the time comes, alongside the other exciting projects we have won and are due to deliver in the summer of 2025.”

One of the standout projects recently completed by Kaymac is an £8.4m development in Newport. This ambitious project involved a 1.47km-long sea outfall installation, showcasing the company’s capability to handle large-scale, multi-disciplined and complex engineering tasks. “The project was in the planning and design for almost three years and we’ve just successfully delivered the construction phase,” Rhiannon noted. “It’s a significant achievement for us and one we’re really proud of.”

Kaymac’s forward momentum is also fuelled by its embrace of cutting-edge technology, which has enabled it to enhance productivity and transparency in its projects. “The use of new technology has made our work more transparent and efficient, allowing us to optimise workflows and reduce costs. It’s also improved our communication with clients, ensuring they know exactly what to expect.”

Looking ahead, Kaymac is poised to explore new markets and opportunities. The company is particularly interested in marine construction and long sea outfalls, building on its recent success in Newport. “We’re focusing on long sea  outfalls and water infrastructure, aiming to be the first choice for water utility companies,” says Rhiannon. “Our expertise in this area positions us well for future projects, as does as our knowledge of the transport marine infrastructure and nuclear decommissioning sector, which are important areas for us, as they are continuing to provide many opportunities.”

In addition to its technical advancements, Kaymac remains committed to investing in its people. The company recognises the importance of its workforce and continues to prioritise training and development. “Our people are our greatest asset,” emphasises Rhiannon. “We invest heavily in training to ensure our staff have the skills they require to be confident and happy in their roles. We have a great youthful team and we’re keen to ensure they meet their potential with us. In fact, one of our engineers was recently nominated ‘Most Promising Graduate’ at the CECA Wales Annual Awards.”

With Kaymac preparing to move into its new headquarters and expand its already excellent team, the future certainly looks bright, with its strategic investments in technology, talent and infrastructure set to drive continued success. With a strong foundation and a clear vision, the company is well-positioned to tackle the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
