Next year Akro Valve will celebrate its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of growth and progression for the business, which was founded in 1983 in Westham, East Sussex. Soon establishing a market position in flow control valves, it became the UK distributor for the Maric flow control system.
Akro Valve continued to develop its credentials in water saving technologies, joining partnership with several international aid agencies. It developed the water distribution tap stand, with the robust water saving Akro Quick Stop Tap. By 1998 Akro Valve had outgrown its premises in Westham and moved three miles up the road to its current premises in Polegate, East Sussex.
In 2000 Akro Valve expanded its business to support the water industry with the supply of pipe fittings and tools for the repair and maintenance of the water distribution networks. It has developed relationships with many of the regional water authorities and supporting contractors for the supply of pipe equipment and essentials. Today it maintains its role as a well-located supplier of water distribution fixtures, fittings and tools for the regional water industry.
Matt joined Akro Valve in 2017 to take over the leadership role in the company. He had previously worked in operational engineering roles for British Gas and Shell, Research and Development in the defence industry and in technical policy roles and engineering management for the UK government. He holds a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from University College London.
Akro Valve remains a family owned British manufacturing business. It is an East Sussex Industry Champion that supports engineering outreach and engineering education programmes in the county. It considers water conservation as a core social responsibility of the 21st Century and is committed with water efficiency and the protection of the environment.
