Fresh from an award-winning year, Mellor Bromley has entered 2026 with the opportunity to capitalise further on its strong blend of experience and quality, as Andy Cox, Joint Managing Director, recently outlined to Construction Industry News.
“The company was formed back in 1969, and has undergone a significant transformation over the years, in terms of the size of the business and the type of work we carry out,” explains Andy. “Despite the changes we’ve gone through, one constant has been our emphasis on delivering a high-quality end product.”
This approach has not only enabled Mellor Bromley to flourish commercially, in the process providing the design and installation of mechanical services across the UK, but has also helped attract significant industry recognition over the years. This proved to be the case in 2025, with the company earning acclaim for its skills on the development of two major regeneration projects.
First up was the BESA Retrofit Award, which was achieved thanks to Mellor Bromley’s work on a development for Molson Coors in Burton-on-Trent. This involved the transformation of a number of existing buildings into their headquarters. The project retained significant amounts of uncovered brickwork, wooden beams and high ceilings, while at the same time utilising exposed modern mechanical services. This juxtaposition of the old and the new helped create an aesthetically stunning building that greatly impressed the BESA judges.
The other award Mellor Bromley secured last year was Regeneration Project of the Year at the ProCon Leicestershire Awards 2025. This was achieved for the transformation of a dormant laboratory building on the Charnwood Campus in Loughborough into a future proofed, high specification research and development hub. Originally built in 1997 and vacated by AstraZeneca in 2011, the structure had stood empty for more than a decade, making the transformation all the more impressive.
While Mellor Bromley has the capabilities and the experience to tackle a wide breadth of different developments, the company particularly enjoys the sustainable aspect of regeneration projects. “When you think about all the energy and resources that a new build development requires, to instead inject new life into an existing structure is much more beneficial from an environmental perspective,” says Andy. “Of course, we also enjoy helping to create new buildings and we’re currently working with the likes of Bowmer + Kirkland on a student accommodation project in Bristol, while we’re also developing a Community Diagnostic Centre in Mansfield for Kier Construction.”
Mellor Bromley’s ability to take on such a wide variety of work is only possible due its extensive experience and its workforce, which includes 27 office-based staff and 12 directly employed onsite operatives. These are supplemented by hundreds of trusted suppliers and subcontractors that the company has worked with regularly over the years, all of which adhere to the same high standards that it works to itself, such as Gas Technical Service UK, Multi-Temp UK, and Richmond Hydrochem Special Projects to name a few of the sub-contractors that provided specialist support on the Charnwood Campus project, and IV Produkt who supplied five bespoke air handling units for the Molson Coors project.
“They’re all tried and tested, so we know what to expect from them and they know the standards we have. We don’t use agency staff on any of our sites. We work hard to make sure everyone’s fully compliant with all the necessary regulations and are competent in their roles. Our quality is our biggest trading point, and the standard of our workmanship is as high as it can be. This is why we’re a member of BESA, because their audits play a vital role in ensuring we maintain exceptional standards.
“We only work with other quality-driven businesses that don’t cut corners. This is mirrored by the clients we choose to work for, as the likes of Clegg Construction and Clegg Food Projects, Kier, Galliford Try, and Bowmer + Kirkland, to name a few, are all major contractors that have developed excellent reputations thanks to the calibre of work they consistently produce.”

From its own perspective, with all its experience and the high standard of its project portfolio, Mellor Bromley has also been careful to pave the way for its ongoing future development by honing its infrastructure and having strong training programmes for its staff. This is increasingly important at a time when there’s a severe lack of skills within the wider industry. For its part, the company has remained a firm believer in apprenticeships and bringing young talent though to fulfil their potential. It has even visited schools to talk about the benefits of working in construction and how rewarding a career in the sector can be.
With such sound foundations in place, following an award-winning 2025, Mellor Bromley looks set to keep building on its already impressive reputation in the next 12 months, as opportunities continue to come its way within the marketplace. Further accolades remain a distinct possibility too.
