The much-loved owner of Coventry City Skips had the perfect send-off after being taken to church for his funeral on the back of his own wagon. Denis Doherty, who had run the company since 1989, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in February and sadly passed away at home surrounded by his family on 2nd July.
The 53-year-old left behind his wife Donna and their six sons: James, Conor, Michael, Kieran, Jack and Tommy.
Following Denis’ death, Coventry City Skips will remain in the family as brothers James, Michael and Jack take the helm.
Paying tribute, niece Roisin said: “Denis was a fun-loving, hard-working, funny man who would do anything for everyone and was the family handy man and would help anyone in need.
“Denis had a huge extended family – four siblings – and with that came an incredible amount of nieces and nephews.
“His family were his life and they meant the absolute world to him.
“People describe people who have passed away as legends but I can truly say he really was. He will be missed by so many and that was evident by the crowd of people who arrived at Christ the King Catholic Church to bid him farewell.”
In Denis’ memory a JustGiving page has been created to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity and anyone wishing to contribute can do so here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/denisdoherty65.
