Kellys Point Hire – Safety first approach brings award recognition

It is testament to the high safety standards of Kellys Point Hire that the Northern Ireland-based firm was shortlisted for a prestigious Hire Awards of Excellence 2018 within the Safehire Company of the Year category.

“Being nominated for the award, and receiving a ‘Certificate of Recognition of Exceptional Performance’, is recognition of the hard work we have put in to ensuring a high standard of safety within the business,” explains Derek Mathers, Operations Manager. “Ensuring the safety of our equipment and our processes is an extremely important part of any plant hire business, and so we have put processes in place to ensure that our equipment is always safe to use and fit for purpose.

“As members of the Hire Association of Europe, we have used our knowledge and experience to ensure that we fulfil their criteria.”

Investing in staff training was key to Kellys Point Hire being put forward for the Safehire Company of the Year Award. “Getting the staff fully on-board has been absolutely essential,” adds Mr Mathers. “By investing in our people we have been able to develop the right type of company culture which puts safety front and centre, and keeps Safe Hire as our number one priority.”

Due to continual investment in new equipment, Kellys Point Hire has developed strong links with its supply chain.

“We continually invest in our hire fleet, ensuring that we always keep a high standard of equipment. In recent months we have added a new range of access equipment, dumpers, diggers, teleporters and wood shredders to our fleet, as well as a range of smaller tools and equipment. These are the kind of items that we’re seeing an increasing demand for, and so we will continue to make this sort of investment to cater for the increasing demand. It’s all about diversifying our offering and keeping things fresh. We aim to provide a premium service to our customers by supplying them with equipment which is modern and reliable, and the strong relationships we have with our suppliers means that, should an issue arise with a machine, we can get it resolved quickly, minimising any down time or disruption.”

Kellys Point Hire is part of the wider Kellys Group, which is also home to a construction division, and a building supplies division. “Given these three key areas that Kellys are involved in, it means that each section of the business can borrow expertise and knowledge from the others, which leads to a really well rounded one stop shop offering for a lot of our customers. A builder or DIYer can get their building materials, tools, equipment and heavy plant all from the one yard, and with our knowledgeable staff always at hand, we can even advise them on best practices with their construction or DIY project, big or small. This one stop shop element makes us unique within the local marketplace.”

Another strength of Kellys Point Hire is its location, as it is situated close to the border, half way between Belfast and Dublin. “We’re strategically placed to accommodate a wide range of different customers from both north and south of the border. This means that whether we’re delivering to the north or the south, our excellent transport links allow us to get deliveries out fast, and ensure that the customers requirements are met.”

With its high standards having helped Kellys Point Hire to build a strong reputation, there’s also a strong chance that we will see Kellys Point Hire featuring in future awards.
