Chelmsford gained City status in 2012 and five years on, continues to go from strength to strength, with the City Council working on its Local Plan, which includes a massive new project to redevelop Riverside Leisure Centre, as well as putting together a bid to be City of Culture in 2025. It’s no wonder that Chelmsford was recently ranked as one of the happiest places in Britain.
One resident who is happy in Chelmsford is Ben Dixon, a 31-year-old senior graphic designer, who purchased one of Bellway’s apartments at the iconic Marconi development in April 2015. This hugely successful development is launching its final phase on 3rd February 2018 and interest for the apartments is already mounting.
This unique development of modern apartments and houses in the centre of Chelmsford has been a great addition to the town centre, providing 418 apartments and houses to residents since it launched in 2014. The latest phase offers a further 56 one and two-bedroom contemporary apartments, each finished to a quality specification and with the added advantages of designated parking, an on-site gym and a concierge service.
Ben had returned home to his parents in Chelmsford after finishing his graphic design degree at the University of Kent. As much as Mum’s home cooking was very welcome, Ben was keen to establish his own independence and quickly became the proud owner of his brand new home at the development. He comments: “I chose a second floor apartment, which has large windows, flooding my living and bedrooms with light. I have been living in Marconi for two years now and recently have been doing some DIY – I am very house proud and want to keep everything fresh and in tip top condition. My girlfriend, Gabby, has moved in with me recently and we love living here. It is such an easy walk to the heart of Chelmsford to see friends, or jump on a train to work or to London, life couldn’t be easier.”
The development is on the site of the iconic Marconi works, the first wireless factory in the world and headquarters to one of the founding fathers of radio, Guglielmo Marconi. Marconi’s old headquarters, built in 1912, were retained as offices; and the water tower and the power house on the site was repurposed to house the new fitness centre and concierge. Contemporary homes have been built on the extensive grounds, reflecting the rich heritage of the site, and includes landscaped public spaces, cycleways and gardens for the enjoyment of all residents.
Marconi is a great location for commuters and an excellent choice for those who prefer two wheels to four. Safe cycle routes go right through the heart of Marconi Evolution and connect the site quickly to the heart of Chelmsford, and secure cycle storage racks are available with plenty of space to lock up your bicycle overnight. A trip from Marconi Evolution into Chelmsford High Street or station should take just a few minutes.
Annette Hurst, Sales and Marketing Director at Bellway Essex, comments: “Helping youngsters like Ben get on to the housing ladder is what makes our jobs really worthwhile. At Bellway, we know how tough it is to break into the housing market and building well priced apartments which are in easy reach of the town centre goes some way to creating the right environment for first time buyers. Help to Buy will be available here soon, and we look forward to meeting more people like to Ben, and help them secure a new home here at Marconi.”
Ben is particularly pleased with the additional facilities at Marconi. He commented: “One of the best things about living here is our amazing concierge and the gym! I love having a gym on site, it really helps me keep fit knowing I don’t have any excuses not to go. And as I work quite long hours, the concierge is a godsend. They take in parcels, let the gas man in, and allow me to leave parcels to be collected; really it’s like having a PA service – amazing!”
Chelmsford is well-known in the region for the quality of its fabulous shopping. High Chelmer and Meadows shopping centres are just a 12-minute walk from the development. Between them, the centres are home to a mass of stores, both high-street names and independent boutiques, as well as a variety of cafés, food takeaways and restaurants.
Marconi Evolution is a short walk from Chelmsford train station with journey times into London of 35 minutes and up to six services an hour. Just one stop on from Chelmsford is Shenfield, which will include Crossrail connections from 2018. Southend and Stansted Airports are approximately half an hour away by car for international travel.
The latest phase of homes at Marconi Evolution will start at £245,000 for a one bed apartment, and £322,000 for a three-bedroom apartment. To register your interest in the development please visit www.bellway.co.uk or call the sales team on 01245 269 208.
