AGGREGATE INDUSTRIES PRODUCT ‘DRIVES’ UPGRADE AT RUGBY POLO CLUB

Aggregate Industries has supplied more than 1,500 tonnes of asphalt to Rugby Polo Club as part of an upgrade of the club’s extensive driveway.

Based at Onley Grounds Farm, near the village of Dunchurch, Rugby Polo Club is the largest arena polo club in the country, hosting around 25 tournament weekends every year as well as numerous other equestrian events. Following feedback from members that the driveway’s uneven and cracked surface was causing damage to expensive horseboxes, the club took the decision to re-surface the driveway with a more resistant material.

Aggregate Industries was called upon to supply a hard wearing surface course material. With the large number of heavy vehicles travelling up the driveway throughout the year, durability and high resistance were key factors in selecting the products to replace the existing driveway.

The project saw Aggregate Industries supply 280 tonnes of 10ml SuperFlex® surface course material. Aggregate Industries recommended Superflex® due to both its crack-resistant properties and low texture depth, making it resistant to scuffing from vehicles.

With the now project completed, the next phase of the club’s investment is due to begin imminently which will see its carpark resurfaced with SuperFlex®.

Philip Baker, owner of the Rugby Polo Club said: “The damage to the original driveway had been caused by the sheer volume of heavy horseboxes and trailers using it over the years, so it was essential that we found something that could survive such demands in the future. We’re delighted to have worked with Aggregate Industries to replace the original material with a hard wearing alternative which will serve our members for many years to come.”

Luke Thomas, Territory Sales Manager for Asphalt West Midlands at Aggregate Industries, said: “We worked closely with Rugby Polo Club to identify the most suitable product, given the type of vehicles using the driveway. Superflex asphalt is particularly suitable for heavily trafficked low speed roads. This, together with its durability and high resistance, made it the perfect choice for Rugby Polo Club’s driveway.”
