A planning application for a 1,084 sq m employment building, which was submitted by the planning team at Avison Young on behalf of AEW UK Core Property Fund, has been approved by Tameside Borough Council.
Planning approval means that the existing dilapidated and unusable buildings on the 0.47-hectare site on Kayley Industrial Estate can now be demolished to make room for the new scheme, which will bring new jobs to Ashton-Under-Lyne, once operational. The redevelopment also represents a circa £1.5m investment in the area.
The new, single storey building will ultimately be subdivided into seven independent units for light industrial uses.
The site is in a highly accessible location, with access to a range of facilities and destinations by walking, cycling and public transport, allowing for reduced reliance on private motor vehicles. It is also located less than a mile from Ashton train station and less than half a mile to the north east of Ashton Town Centre, which provides a range of shops and amenities.
Rachel May from Avison Young’s planning team in Manchester, said: “We are really pleased to have secured planning approval for a site that will make a real difference to the town. Not only will it bring new jobs but because of its excellent location, it removes the necessity for people to drive to and from work which will be a bonus for many.”
It is anticipated that work will commence on site to deliver the new scheme in Q1 2020.
